Ventilation Capacities of Chinese Industrial Cities and Their Influence on the Concentration of NO2

Most cities in China, especially industrial cities, are facing severe air pollution, which affects the health of residents and development cities. One most effective ways to alleviate pollution is improve urban ventilation environment; however, few studies have focused on relationship between them. The Frontal Area Index (FAI) can reflect obstructive effect buildings wind. It influenced by architectural form an attribute city itself that be used accurately measure capacity or potential city. Here, FAIs 45 different sizes climatic zones China were computed, FAI concentration typical pollutants, i.e., NO2, analyzed. was found (1) less than 0.45, indicating excellent good capacities; (2) there significant differences capacities decreased from temperate tropical climate zone increased large small cities; (3) a difference winter summer, with exception building height density, wind direction also main influencing factor FAI; (4) NO2 significantly correlated FAI, relative contribution stable at approximately 9% generally higher other socioeconomic factors. There turning point influence (0.18 < 0.49), below had strong concentration, above became weaker. results this study provide guidance for suppressing through planning.
